(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Indian External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna expressed the hope that the 16th heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran would open a new chapter in the activities of the international Movement.
Krishna made the remarks in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi on the sidelines of the NAM conference, hailing Iran's role in the successful holding of the summit.
Over 150 world states and global bodies have sent their representatives to the NAM meeting in Tehran.
During the meeting, the Iranian and Indian foreign ministers also discussed the latest developments in the bilateral relations and the important regional and international issues like the problems in Syria.
The Indian top diplomat also expressed concern about the situation in Syria and dismissed any foreign interference in the country.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.
Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.
The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
In October 2011, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrests in Syria.
